News & Notes #40

Welcome to the digital format of Focal Pointe News and Notes. We hope that you enjoy receiving the newsletter in this format.

  Message from John:

Focal Pointe Team,

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Every generation seems to experience a disruptive event that is felt throughout the nation, if not the world.  My Grandparents knew where they were when news of Pearl Harbor broke, and my parents vividly recalling hearing of President Kennedy’s assassination.  The space shuttle Columbia exploding, and September 11 are both fresh in my mind.  These events of the past are moments everyone, from those generations, remembers in great detail.  Where they were, what they were doing, the time of day, and the weather outside are burned into the memories of those who were old enough to be aware.

Unfortunately, 2020 will have the same impact on our memories, but what we remember will be different due to the long duration of the event.  Instead of a specific point in time the shock of the event took place; we’ll remember the relationships we were in, the events that were canceled, and online shopping reshaping our culture.  We’ll also forever remember where we worked, who we worked with, and how we worked together.

In 2019, I marveled at how we didn’t flinch when great opportunities came our way.  This year has brought on less positive challenges, but our response as a company gives us reason to be proud.  Appropriately, we had to take on a more defensive mindset.  However, we remained poised, committed to each other, and committed to our customers.  In the face of all this adversity, we sharpened our focus operationally resulting in outstanding feedback from the customer satisfaction surveys when compared to our peers.  Additionally, we also saw our residential design/build department have a great year.

As you enter the heart of the Holiday Season, I want you to know how much I appreciate you personally and how grateful I am for the extra effort you put into getting us through this challenging year.  This year, Christmas Eve falls on Thursday.  In an effort to maximize your time with family and friends, I am adding Thursday, December 24th as a paid Holiday this year, providing each of you with four consecutive days off.

Although it is my hope for everyone to be able to enjoy the Christmas break without interruptions from work, please keep in mind that we have a responsibility to our clients.  If winter weather arrives, or a 24/7 client requires us to work, we will simply apply the extra day to your paycheck as an additional paid day off to use another time.

Thank you again for your high standards and commitment to Focal Pointe.  Wishing you and your loved ones a Holiday Season, and New Year, full of Peace, Hope, and Love.

Sincerely,

John

 Important Health Insurance Information:

Focal Pointe recently received our health insurance renewal rates from United Health Care (UHC) for the upcoming year.  Between now and January 1 (our renewal date) we will be conducting our annual open enrollment period for our medical plan. During this open enrollment period, you may elect to make changes to your health insurance plan (i.e. enroll, add or delete dependents).  If you are currently not participating in our health insurance benefit, you may enroll at this time.

With our renewal, we will be staying with UHC and switching to a slightly different plan that offers our employees similar coverage but not at a substantial increase. J.W. Terrill, our agent, did put our account out to bid and the premiums came back anywhere from 15%-30%.  They were able to negotiate further on our behalf with a few changes to our current plan, mainly in prescription drugs.  This will increase the premium to $5.08 per pay period for employee-only coverage which is only a 6% increase.  This premium includes the 50% coverage that Focal Ponte provides our employees.  If your spouse or family are enrolled the same percentage will apply.  This new premium will be effective as of January 8, 2021.

If you are currently enrolled on our health insurance policy and do not wish to make any changes during this open enrollment period, we will automatically re-enroll you into the new plan.  If you wish to make changes, enroll or waive coverage, we ask that you please complete a Benefits Enrollment/Change Form.  Upon request, we will have the Benefit Summary Packages available.  If you have any additional questions, please contact Lisa or Johanna.

All changes made during this time will go into effect on January 1, 2021.  Please have your election to Johanna at your earliest convenience but absolutely no later than Thursday, December 31, 2020.

Please keep in mind that this portion of our compensation plan is particularly challenging.  The cost increases are constant and we are doing our best to keep the impact of those increases at a minimum for you and your families, while keeping the level of insurance we have all become accustomed to having.
