Happy Tuesday Everyone! Today’s Core Value is: We Put People First.
Last Friday, I was listening to a very busy gentlemen who facilitates retreats. Prior to one of his upcoming retreats, he was looking over the attendees list, and saw his dad’s name on the list. This was not good, because his dad was a “cash cow” of stories for his presentations – some flattering, some not so flattering, and almost all were…humorous.
This was not an ideal situation for the son, so he reached out to his dad, and the conversation went something like this:
Son: “Hi Dad, I saw that you signed up for a retreat, and I happen to be the facilitator of the retreat you signed up for.”
Dad: “I know.”
Son: “These retreats can be personal in nature. I’d be happy to set you up with another retreat with a great facilitator if you’d like.”
Dad: “No, I’m good.”
Son: “Well truthfully dad, I use a lot of material from my time growing up and you’re in a lot of my stories. Honestly, I think it would be kind of awkward for you to be there. Are you sure you want to attend? Again, I’d be happy to set you up at another retreat.”
With that, the dad responded and said something the busy, adult son would never forget. He said:
“I don’t really care about the content of the retreat. That’s not why I signed up. Maybe I just want to hear from my son.”
I heard it once said that people find time for things they love. As you wrap up 2025 and set your eyes on 2026, what goals are you prioritizing? How do you intend to show your love?
Have a great day! John
