Release and Create

Happy Wednesday Everyone!  Today’s Core Value is: We Create Our Future.  “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”  Victor Frankl

All of us have gone through hardship at some point in our lives.  Some more difficult than others, but all of us have faced loss, fear, hurt, and a feeling that life isn’t fair.  Sometimes those situations can become a story in our minds that gets replayed, repeatedly, in slow motion, trying to get our brains to process what took place, hoping if we can understand it, our view of the situation will change.  The pit in our stomach will lessen.

Victor Frankl was a famous psychiatrist who survived the Holocaust, but lost his parents, brother, and pregnant wife.  He became a source of inspiration for even his captors, by believing that he couldn’t control what others did to him, but he could control his response.

Victor Frankl had a supernatural gift…even after surviving the Holocaust, and witnessing the worst of humanity, he chose forgiveness over anger.  Grace to that degree, may be out of reach for us mere mortals, but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn from his example.  It’s the surest way to create your future, regardless of situational hardships.  That’s freedom.

Have a great day!  John

These reflections are part of our internal Morning Messages, shared daily with the Focal Pointe team. They are meant to encourage thoughtful leadership, gratitude, and perspective as we begin the day. From time to time, we choose to share select messages here for a broader audience who values purpose-driven work, service to others, and growth from the inside out.
