We live in a culture that talks a lot about happiness and warps the definition of it through social media. The perfect pose, attending the sold out show, perfect kids, the perfect job…the perfect lives online are presented as proof of happiness, fed to the public, in a much more shallow place.
The people who make the biggest positive difference in our lives are not the people who focus on their own happiness or have a high need for attention. They’re the people who choose to be useful. They quietly show up when they are needed. They keep their word. They work hard. They extend compassion when it is easier to look the other way. And they do it when no one is looking.
Ironically, the people who choose this path, in the end, enjoy the greatest meaning and happiness in life. That is the real value behind today’s Core Value. Yes, it guides our decisions as a company and puts us in position to delight others. But equally important, if adopted and lived out, Putting People First will give each of us the gift of meaning, peace, and purpose in our lives, which is worth more than a thousand likes.
